HISTORY

The school was founded on October 5, 1945 with the name, National Business School. Courses offered were Typewriting, Stenography and Bookkeeping. The School site was at Solis Street, Iloilo City.

In school year 1949 - 1950 when it transferred to its new site at E. Lopez Street, Jaro, Iloilo City far from city proper, the name of the school was changed to Cabalum Commercial School (CCS) to meet the requirement imposed by the Bureau of Private School under the leadership of Dr. Daniel Salcedo to acquire government recognition for all courses offered.

The school offered first to fourth year secondary commercial course with laudable record in the government examination. It was the first to offer the said type of curriculum in the Island of Panay. In the 1962 National Examination for Vocational - Secondary School, for both public and private schools, the Cabalum Commercial School ranked third place in the entire Philippines.

Due to public demand, in school year 1951 - 1952 the school offered a one-year collegiate secretarial course for which government recognition was acquired the following year. After a couple of years, the school offered first and second year commerce for which government recognition was likewise acquired later. At present, all these courses are offered by the school, except the secondary commercial courses, which was discontinued at the end of 1961 to 1962 when the school transferred to the present site at Iznart Street, Iloilo City.

After the destruction of its building by the February 1966 fire, CCS with all its determination, constructed from the ashes a new building and in the process accommodated the increasing enrollment.

On June 15, 1973, a government permit and authorize to operate the school branch in San Miguel, Jordan, Province of Guimaras, was secured under the name of Guimaras Vocational School (GVS). A two-hectare lot was bought by the main school. This was an attempt to reach and help develop the new flourishing community of the locale with its own new provincial capitol where the school branch is located. This answered the demand of the community in tis employment needs.

In 1979 - 1980, two new courses were added, namely: Dressmaking and Pre-Master Men's Tailoring. CCS has been offering scholarship to deserving students who cannot afford to continue their studies on account of financial problems. Many of those who were recipients of this charitable offer are now employed in various parts of the country not to mention those who engage in business using the knowledge that they learned from the school.

The undeniable exemplary leadership of Dr. Jose D. Cabalum, Sr. in his pursuit for academic excellence and effective implementation of all educational programs, convince the regional committee on education to confer to the founder, an award of "Outstanding Performance in School Administration". CCS has served the public continuously for sixty-seven (67) years by helping many ambitious youths acquire necessary training and skill for employment. Since its foundation, the school has been serving honestly with primordial aim and dedicated to service. Because of her desire to specialize in collegiate secretarial course and business education, in January 1982, Cabalum Commercial School applied to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports to offer complete Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA). The permit was issued on OCtober 1984 and become effective on March 1985. The request for change of her name was also granted, and the corporate name was changed to "CABALUM WESTERN COLLEGE".

In order to keep pace with the demand of technological advancement and development, Cabalum Western College offered Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, starting school year 1992. Likewise, it added in Bachelor of Science in Secretarial Administration major in Computer Teacher Education and Secretarial Teacher Education, while under the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Course new additional majors were introduced aside from Management. It now offers major Data Processing and major in Finance and Management Accounting. In 1996, the school offer a five-year program in Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Last June 2009 a permit to offer a course in Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM) was granted by the Commission on Higher Education. Cabalum Western College is an academic institution that had encountered significant transition since its humble beginning. The school continues to exist embodying its three ideals" "Scholarship, Character and Service".
